About this blog...

It all started as a walk in the park.

I'd recently been laid off, and I wanted to start walking to get some exercise and, frankly, to use up some of my spare time. My husband (already retired) suggested that he'd been enjoying going to Yorba Regional Park, so we tried it.

As we visited more and more, we started looking for something beyond exercise, and we started paying attention to the birds. And, over time, we started having questions: What kind of bird is that? When did the coots disappear after having so many just recently? When are the red-winged blackbirds coming back? How long before the baby geese can fly?

And as we took pictures to help us identify birds and document the growth of the babies, I wanted to have a place to accumulate them, help me remember what I'd learned, and -- maybe -- share my enthusiasm with my friends.

So this blog started as a diary, but I think of it as postcards that I'd like to share with you, my friends, as I explore the parks around Orange County, California.
